How to apply
Applicants to graduate school are admitted through the Faculty of Graduate Studies. Their Graduate Admissions department requires a paid application fee before they will set up a file for you. They gather all applications, assessment reports, test results, transcripts of marks, etc. and evaluate them for Faculty of Graduate Studies requirements. If those requirements are satisfied, the file is sent to the Chemistry department for final review. You must fulfill all the application criteria to be accepted.
All applicants require:
- a completed, paid application form
- a final transcript of marks mailed from your undergraduate university
- confirmation of degree mailed from your undergraduate university
- assessment reports on forms from 2 professors or other academic authorities familiar with your work. Assessment forms are part of the application package (see links below). They must be filled in and mailed by the person providing the report.
International applicants
Any student whose application requires processing of paper from an international institution is considered international. Please check the official UVic webpage on language proficiency if you are an international student.
Graduate funding and tuition
All graduate students are paid a minimum stipend of $22,559 per year. Some receive extra fellowship/scholarship money. A complete application file must be received at Graduate Admissions by February 1 to be reviewed for fellowship/scholarship money in September. Learn more about graduate student support.
Tuition fees are paid each term (there are 3 terms per year). They include the cost of an unlimited-use bus pass. You'll be able to buy reasonably priced dental and health-care coverage.
All graduate students teach labs in the fall and spring terms, and must pass specified course work and participate in their research group.
Contacting professors
We encourage you to email any of our professors with questions. They cannot offer you a position in their research group based on emails, but they can indicate whether there are potential openings to be filled. You must formally apply and meet the minimum application standards to be accepted here.
